Local 2808 Welcomes Our New Fire Chief
We are proud to welcome our new Fire Chief, Peter Skeris.
Chief Skeris was officially sworn in during a ceremony at City Hall on February 19, 2026, where he took the oath of office and was presented with his badge by his wife, Ingrid Skeris — a meaningful moment that reflects the family support behind every leader in the fire service.
Chief Skeris brings more than two decades of fire service leadership experience to the Grand Junction Fire Department. He joined the Charlotte Fire Department in 1997 after serving six years in law enforcement. Over the course of his career, he has held a wide range of operational, training, and executive leadership roles. Most recently, he oversaw daily operations for 45 firehouses, 67 staffed apparatus, and nearly 1,100 personnel across Operations, Special Operations, and Charlotte-Douglas International Airport Fire and Rescue. In 2025, he was awarded the Medal of Valor by the North Carolina Firefighters Association, recognizing his dedication and service to the profession.
Throughout his career, Chief Skeris has demonstrated a steadfast commitment to operational excellence, firefighter safety, and the core values that define the fire service. His experience and steady leadership will be an asset not only to our department, but to the residents we are sworn to protect.
As members of the International Association of Fire Fighters, we understand the importance of collaboration, communication, and mutual respect between labor and management. We look forward to building a productive working relationship with Chief Skeris — one grounded in transparency, shared goals, and a shared commitment to supporting the men and women on the front lines.
Leadership transitions provide an opportunity to strengthen partnerships and set a clear vision for the future. We are confident that Chief Skeris will continue the tradition of excellence within our department while working alongside Local 2808 to ensure our members have the training, equipment, and support they need to serve safely and effectively.
On behalf of the Executive Board and the entire membership of Local 2808, we extend a warm welcome to Chief Peter Skeris in his new role as Fire Chief. We look forward to a successful partnership serving our community.
